Employment

Employment with the Sherwood Forest Boys and Girls Summer Camp is divided into the following categories: Counselor, Program Director, Field Supervisor, Camp Director, and Office Staff. The descriptions of each vital role in the camp program are listed below.

Counselor

Brief Description

Under the supervision of the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp Director, the Counselor has direct responsibility for the delivery of a Camper’s day-to-day activities.

Duties

  1. Organize, instruct and supervise assigned Camp group.
  2. Lead all Campers to reach Camp objectives outlined in the Camp Information Manual.
  3. Accept and safeguard the physical safety and emotional well-being of the Campers under your direct supervision.
  4. Inspect and maintain all areas used by the Camp on a regular basis for potentially hazardous conditions and communicate problems to the Camp Director.
  5. Ensure that accurate attendance and Camper point records are maintained at all times.
  6. Maintain discipline and good order within their group in accordance with Camp policy and rules.
  7. Communicate clearly and courteously with Camp staff, campers, parents and community members.
  8. Ensure that campers have all needed supplies under their direct supervision.
  9. Report accidents, property damage or major disciplinary problems to the Camp Director.
  10. Resolve and mediate camper concerns and communicate all parent issues to your Field Supervisor or the Camp Director.
  11. Maintain accurate records of each Camper.

Experience

Preference is given to candidates with experience in field leadership, experience in the education and training of primarily school age children, be at least 16 years old, and possess (or have the ability to obtain) certification in Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR. Experience with communicating effectively to large groups of children is also desired.

Program Director

Brief Description

Under the supervision of the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp Director, Program Directors are responsible for planning, managing, supervising, and training Campers in a specific area of responsibility. Camp programs include: Swimming, Tennis, Golf, Nature, Boating, Arts & Crafts, Music, Soccer, Lacrosse, Karate, Archery, Great Books, Playground, and Pre-Playground.

Duties

  1. Plan, organize, supervise, and instruct assigned program activities.
  2. Accept and safeguard the physical safety and emotional well-being of the counselors and campers under your direct supervision.
  3. Inspect and maintain all areas used by program on a regular basis for potentially hazardous conditions and execute improvements where necessary.
  4. Maintain discipline and good order within groups as guided by Camp policy and rules.
  5. Communicate clearly and courteously with all staff, campers, parents and community members.
  6. Ensure that staff and campers have needed supplies under your direct supervision.
  7. Report accidents, property damage or major disciplinary problems to the Camp Director
  8. Resolve and mediate staff, parent and camper problems or concerns.
  9. Maintain accurate records of each camper as necessary.

Experience

Preference is given to candidates with extensive experience in their programs area of expertise. Preference is given to professionals with advanced degrees and educational credentials. Candidates should be at least 17 years old, and possess (or have the ability to obtain) certification in Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR. Experience with communicating effectively to large groups of children is also desired.

Field Supervisor

Brief Description
Under the supervision of the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp Director, the Field Supervisor is responsible for leadership in planning, managing, training, supervising, and is responsible for day-to-day success of the assigned Camp Counselor Groups.

Duties

  1. Organize, instruct and/or supervise assigned Counselor group activities, counselors and campers.
  2. Lead all counselor staff and campers within groups assigned to reach the Camp objectives outlined in the Camp Information Manual.
  3. Accept and safeguard the physical safety and emotional well-being of the counselors and campers under your direct supervision.
  4. Inspect and maintain all areas used by Camp on a regular basis for potentially hazardous conditions and execute improvements where necessary.
  5. Maintain the Camp’s behavioral guidelines. Maintain discipline and good order within groups as guided by Camp policy and rules.
  6. Communicate clearly and courteously with Camp staff, campers, parents and community members.
  7. Ensure that staff and campers have needed supplies under your direct supervision.
  8. Report accidents, property damage or major disciplinary problems to the Camp Director
  9. Resolve and mediate staff, parent and camper problems or concerns.
  10. Maintain accurate records of camper and staff behavior.

Experience
Preference is given to candidates with at least 1000 professional hours in the field of education and training with and emphasis on school age children, be at least 18 years old and possess (or have the ability to obtain) certification in Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR. Experience with communicating effectively to large groups of children is also desired.

Camp Director

Brief Description

Under the supervision of the Sherwood Forest Club’s Activity Committee, the Camp Director is directly responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, supervising, and providing for the overall success of the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp.

Duties

  1. Recruit, hire, organize, and ensure the appropriate training of all Camp personnel.
  2. Lead the entire Camp staff and by extension all Campers in achieving Camp objectives as outlined in the Camp Information Manual.
  3. Safeguard the physical safety and emotional well-being of all Camp staff and Campers.
  4. Inspect and maintain all areas used by the Camp on a regular basis for potentially hazardous conditions and execute improvements where necessary.
  5. Maintain discipline and good order within the Camp in accordance with all Camp rules and regulations.
  6. Communicate clearly and courteously with all staff, campers, parents and community members.
  7. Ensure appropriate equipment and supply levels for all activities.
  8. Ensure that all accident and health reports are managed in accordance with governing regulations.
  9. Ensure proper certifications for all Camp activities.
  10. Resolve and mediate staff, parent and camper problems or concerns.
  11. Supervise the accurate accounting of Camp budgets.
  12. Maintain routine communication with the Activities Committee, draft reports as requested detailing the performance of the Boys & Girls Camp.

Experience

Preference is given to candidates with at least 10 years experience in the field of education, advanced professional degrees and educational certifications in education administration, extensive knowledge and experience with the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp and the community of Sherwood Forest, be at least 36 years old and possess (or have the ability to obtain) certification in Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR. Prefer experience communicating effectively to large groups of children and adults and a willingness to work throughout the calendar year to guarantee the success of the Camp.

Office Manager & Assistant Office Manager

Brief Description

Under the supervision of the Sherwood Forest Camp Director, office managers are responsible for the administrative and clerical functions of the Camp.

Duties

The Office Manager serves as: Receptionist, Registration Assistant, Morale Officer, First Aid Medic, monitors remote First Aid sites weekly, provides First Aid at Wednesday Races, maintains documentation for Certification and Safety Issues, reviews registration forms, Health History, and Immunization Records, reviews Staff Files for accuracy, maintains medication information, serves as Field Trip & Parent Note Auditor, monitor weather reports, drafts and edits Greensheet input, prepares for Trophy Night, and maintains Camp photo orders.

The Assistant Office Manager serves as: Registration Assistant, Assistant Receptionist, Assistant Website Manager, facilitates equipment repair, manages training certification records, 2nd session registration and billing, counselor attendance records (AM & PM), manages and audits weekly attendance sheets, update group rosters weekly, payroll filings, alternate First Aid Medic, and other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.

Experience

Preference is given to candidates with at least 2 years experience in educational administrative functions, professional degrees and educational certifications in education, knowledge and experience with the Sherwood Forest Boys & Girls Camp and the community of Sherwood Forest, be at least 16 years old and possess (or have the ability to obtain) certification in Standard First Aid and Infant and Child CPR. Prefer experience communicating effectively to large groups of children and adults.
